Junior Leaders Field Gun Challenge

20 students from both the FE and HE Uniformed Public Services and Sport programmes, travelled to HMS Collingwood in Fareham to compete in the Junior Leaders' Royal Navy Field Gun Challenge on Friday June 11 (we're in the in the blue and white shirts).

The 20 students, aged 16 to 24, competed against teams including the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, Prince's Trust and Network Rail in this historic challenge.

Out of 17 crews they managed a very credible 10th after taking part in the plate final, as well as winning the Endeavour Trophy for all their exceptional efforts. Team Derby's fastest time in the various heats was 1 minute 30 seconds.
On top of pushing and pulling a near three quarter of a tonne gun, they also had the pleasant experience of staying on a 1960's Royal Naval Warship for the duration of their week's stay. We are extremely proud of them all.

Fine Dining in the Dome Raises Hundreds for Charity

Hospitality students at Buxton College, part of the University of Derby Buxton, have raised £250 for Hospitality Action with a fine dining experience at the Dome Restaurant yesterday.

The students, who are currently studying towards a BTEC National Diploma in Hospitality Supervision, spent the last four weeks planning and promoting the fundraising event which featured a three-course fine dining experience and a prize raffle.

In total, 52 customers enjoyed the charity lunch, which was prepared and served by catering students at the University of Derby Buxton. The lunch was followed by a raffle when prizes such as a haircut at Toni & Guy, a spa treatment at The Devonshire Spa and cup cakes from The Cup Cake Boutique were given away.

Hospitality Supervision student Charlotte Underwood, who supervised the event, said: "We're all really chuffed at how well it went and want to thank everyone who came for the meal and donated so generously. We would like to thank the businesses from Buxton and Leek who provided us with such great prizes."

The £250 raised will go to the charity Hospitality Action, which raises vital funds to care for hospitality workers past and present who have fallen on hard times.

Run, Ride, Row

The Sports and Uniformed Public Services students in Buxton are busy organising and training for a 24-hour challenge, 130 students from the BTEC National Diplomas will run, cycle and row as far as possible in the magnificent Dome, the centrepiece of the Buxton Campus.

Why not come along and show them some support on the 20 May 2010 in aid of the charity Help for Heroes.

We Brew Tea Party

The E2E students are holding a fund raising tea/coffee and cake event in half term, and are raising money for Macmillan.
