  • You need to be willing to do some work on your own.
  • You'll be assessed at your workplace, you need to prepare for and attend these assessment visits and any other appointments.

Tell me about the course in general

 

During this excellent training programme you will develop advanced food preparation and cooking skills. You will take part in practical skills sessions in your workplace and learn the theory either in College or using online learning materials. You'll work alongside others as part of a team.

You'll spend four or five days each week in work and come into College for one day.

You may need to pay for specialist materials associated with this course.

What qualifications will I get?

NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery, Level 3 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles, plus Key Skills qualifications in Maths and English

What can I go on to next?

You'll be able to apply for positions in hospitality businesses, from small independent operators to national and international companies.

Alternatively, you could move on to more advanced studies including the foundation degrees in Professional Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management here at the University of Derby Buxton.

How will I be assessed?

You'll be assessed throughout the course in different ways, including observation of skills, practical and written assignments and projects.

Between 12 and 15 months, depending on your age, ability and work experience

What do I need to join the course?

You'll need to be working in a job where you can develop the skills required by this course, and where your training will be supported by your employer.
