What we expect from you

  • You'll be passionate and enthusiastic about your chosen industry and committed to the programme.
  • You need to be willing to do some work on your own.
  • You'll be assessed at your workplace, you need to prepare for and attend these assessment visits and any other appointments.

Tell me about the course in general

During this excellent training programme you will develop a wide range of basic cooking skills. You will take part in practical skills sessions in your workplace and learn the theory either in College or using online learning materials. You'll work alongside others as part of a team.

You'll spend four or five days each week in work and come into College for one day.

You may need to pay for specialist materials associated with this course.

What qualifications will I get?

NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles, plus Key Skills qaulifications in Maths and English 

What can I go on to next?

You'll be able to apply for jobs in a wide range of hospitality businesses or move on to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed throughout your course in different ways, including observation of your skills, practical and written assignments and projects.

Between 12 and 15 months, depending on your age, ability and workplace experience

What do I need to join the course?

You'll need to be working in an establishment where the menus served cover the range of units that make that make up this course, and where your training will be supported by your employer.

You'll be invited to an informal interview where we'll chat through your options and make sure you're on the right course.
