What does this course offer me?

Tell me about the course in general

You'll focus on practical food preparation, cooking and food service. You'll do most of your work in our well equipped Fine Dining Restaurant, which is open to the public.

As well as getting practical training in our well equipped kitchens and restaurant, you'll learn the knowledge that's essential for a successful career in this competitive industry.

You'll normally come into College from Monday to Friday, with the occasional weekend and evening events.

What qualifications will I get?

VRQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking, VRQ Level 2 Food and Beverage Service, Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and a Food Safety Certificate

What can I go on to next?

You will have the option to move on to the VRQ Level 3 Advanced Professional Cookery (Kitchen/Larder), VRQ Level 3 Food and Beverage Service or the Advanced Apprenticeship in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership.

Alternatively, you could start working in the food and drink service sector or become a junior chef while continuing with more advanced training.

How will I be assessed?

Your progress and achievement will be continuously assessed in a variety of ways, inclduing observation, assignments, and practical and written tests. You also need to do extra study and homework to get the most out of this course.

What do I need to join the course?

A Level 1 catering qualification or suitable catering experience
