Tell me about the course in general
This is an ideal course if you're looking for basic to intermediate training in modern cookery, food and drink service and
customer service skills. You'll gain valuable by working in our well equipped kitchens and restaurant and learn the fundamental knowledge that's needed for a successful career in this competitive industry.
During this intensive course, you'll get a combination of practical training, theory sessions, lectures and demonstrations. You'll be supervised by our highly experienced hospitality professionals.
You'll normally come into College from Monday to Friday, with the occasional weekend and evening events.
You may need to pay for specialist materials associated with this course.
What qualifications will I get?
VRQ Level 1 Food Preparation and Cooking, VRQ Level 1 Food and BeverageService, plus Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English
What can I go on to next?
You could go on to the VRQ Level 2 Professional Cookery Diploma, start a career in the food and drink service sector or consider an apprenticeship programme.
How will I be assessed?
Your progress and achievements will be continuously assessed throughout the course in a variety of ways, including observation, assignments, practical and written tests. You'll also need to do extra study and homework to get the most out of this course.
What do I need to join the course?
Four GCSEs at grades D-G, with at least a D in English, a good school or college report and an interest in this area
