19 January 2012
Buxton College has been recognised for its commitment to the values of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by being welcomed into the Get Set Network of schools and colleges.
The Get Set Network is a special community of schools and colleges across the UK who all demonstrate a commitment to the values of respect, friendship, equality, excellence, inspiration, courage and determination; and are using the London 2012 Games to inspire learners of all ages and abilities to get involved in activities.
The Head of Buxton College, Mary Blauciak, said: "We have worked hard to increase sports participation amongst our students, and have built strong links to work with High Peak communities to encourage wider sports participation too. For example, last year, the College teamed up with the local Disability Sports Group on the sport without barriers event which celebrated inclusive sport in the High Peak.
"Joining the Get Set Network, and being part of the London 2012 Olympic Games will provide us with a fantastic opportunity to inspire our young students to try more sports and raise their aspirations to do well in sport."
Students have got a packed year of sport in 2012, including participating in the local Sport Relief Miles events, facilitating at Olympicnics and at the Derbyshire Summer School Games.
