- You'll be assessed at your workplace, you need to prepare for and attend these assessment visits and any other appointments.
Tell me about the course in general
It's designed for mechanics who want to improve and update their practical skills and knowledge and their supervisory skills, while they're working.
You'll learn mostly through your work but will attend College one evening a fortnight for the theory sessions. These sessions will support the practical elements you'll be learning in your workplace.
You'll cover these units:
• Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Engine and Component Faults
• Diagnose and Rectify Vehicle Chassis System Faults
• Diagnose and Rectify Light Vehicle Transmissions and Driveline System Faults
• Diagnose annd Rectify Auxiliary Equipment Electrical Faults.
You'll also study for a Technical Certificate and Functional Skills qualifications.
What qualifications will I get?
An NVQ Level 3 Motor Vehicle, Functional Skills qualifications, technical certificates plus advanced apprenticeship certificates.
What can I go on to next?
You can move on to the Foundation Degree in Motorsport Technology or Motorcycle Technology at the University's Derby Campus.
How you'll learn
The programme is designed for mechanics who want to improve their practical skills and knowledge and to update and improve their supervisory skills.
How will I be assessed?
Through ongoing practical assessments and a portfolio of evidence, which you'll put together. Questions and answers are used to test your knowledge during assessments. You also need to pass a computer based (GOLA) multiple choice test.

Up to 32 months, depending on your age and ability.
