What does this course offer me?
- It's your opportunity to gain the practical knowledge and skills you'll need to start a career IT.
- You'll have a choice of two qualifications: Diploma (equivalent to two A Levels) and the Extended Diploma (equivalent to three A Levels).
- You'll have the chance to go on a work placement and gain valuable experience.
Tell me about the course in general
You'll focus on software development (programming), but also learn technical aspects of how computers work and how they are used in industry and commerce. You'll spend at least 18 hours a week in the classroom (over three days) and at least six hours of private study.
You will need a computer, internet access, and a memory stick. You will also have to buy recommended books to be able to complete your assignments.
You'll study a variety of units, which may include:

- Information Systems
- Impact of Use of IT on Business Systems
- Software Design and Dvelopment
- Systems Analysis and Design
- Event Driven Programming
- Website Production
- Digital Graphics
- E-Commerce
- Organisational Systems Security
- Developing Computer Games
- Human Computer Interaction
- Client Side Customisation of Web Pages
- Database Design.

What qualifications will I get?
BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in IT, plus Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English
What can I go on to next?
You could move on to a HND or degree, become self employed or find a job in an IT related occupation, such as programming, applications support, web design, graphic design or business administration.
How will I be assessed?
There are no exams. You'll be assessed on the assignments and projects you complete.
What do I need to join the course?
You'll normally need to have one of the following:
- at least four GCSEs at grades A* - C, ideally including English, Maths and IT
- a Level 2 Diploma in IT (or a related subject) with Merit.
You will also be interviewed and you'll need a good reference from your school, college or employer.
