What does this course offer me?

This is a competence based qualification that replaces the previous NVQ qualification. It is aimed at people who are already working with adults or children and younger people across a range of health and social care settings.  

 

Tell me about the course in general

Your training will be linked to the job you're already doing in health and/or social care.

You'll study one a day a week in College and the rest of your time will be spent learning and putting the theory into practice in your workplace.

You will study these units:

  • Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care
  • Development Through Life Stages
  • Values and Planning in Social Care
  • safeguarding Adults
  • Personal and Professional Development
  • Employment Responsibilities and Rights
  • Promoting Independence
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

You will choose one of the these specialised pathways:

  • Adult Care
  • Children and Young People
  • Dementia Care
  • Learning Disabilities.

You may need to pay for your uniform and travel.

What qualifications will I get?

QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, plus Functional Skills or Key Skills qualifications in Maths and English

What can I go on to next?

You will be able to apply for many jobs in health and social care, including working as a care worker, support worker in healthcare, nursing assistant, occupational therapy assistant and physiotherapy assistant.

You could also further your training by going on to study at QCF Level 3 or taking a university level course.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including observation and assignments. You will need to build a portfolio, which is great way of being able to record how you have put your learning into practice in your job.

Between 12 and 15 months, depending on your previous experience and qualifications

What do I need to join the course?

You'll need three GCSEs, including English and Maths, and a satisfactory CRB check.

You will be interviewed to make sure the course is right for you.
