Why take this apprenticeship?
If you're already working with adults or children across a range of health and social care settings, and you're interested in gaining a qualification then this could be the course for you.
This is a competence based qualification, and you'll attend college one day a week whilst continuing in your job, so you'll get the chance to put the theory you learn into practice and improve your skills in your job.

- You'll be passionate and enthusiastic about your chosen industry and committed to the programme.
- You need to be willing to do some work on your own.
- You'll be assessed at your workplace, you need to prepare for and attend these assessment visits and any other appointments.
Tell me about the course in general
Your training will be linked to the job you will be doing within Health and or Social Care. You will study one day a week in College, and the rest of your time will be spent learning in the workplace.
You'll study:
- Health, safety and security in health and social care
- Development through life stages
- Values and planning in social care
- Safeguarding adults
- Personal and professional development
- Employment responsibilities and rights in health, social care/children
- Promoting independence
You'll choose one of the following specialised pathways:
- Adult Care
- Children and Young People
You'll choose from the following specialist pathways:
- Dementia care
- Learning disabilities
- Employment responsibilities and rights in health, social care and or children's and young people's settings.
What qualifications will I get?
You will get a Level 2 or a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care which is a competence based qualification (This qualification replaces NVQ in this area).
And you'll also have the chance to gain a Certificate in Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and a qualification in Communication and Application of Number as part of Key Skills/Technical Skills.
What can I go on to next?
You'll have the skills to apply for many jobs in Health and Social Care, including working as:
- Care/ Day Care workers
- Senior/ Support worker in Health Care
- Nursing Assistant,
- Occupational Assistant
- Physiotherapy Assistant.
Or, you could continue studying to the next level, or move on to a Higher Education course such as a degree.
How will I be assessed?
You'll be assessed in a variety of ways including observation and assignments. You'll also build a portfolio which is a great way of being able to record how you've put your learning into practice in your job.

Three GCSE's including English language and Maths, plus another subject
For the LevelĀ 3 qualification you'll need:
Five GCSE's including English language and Maths, plus three other subjects.
You'll be invited to an interview to make sure that the course is right for you.
