What does this course offer me?
- You can choose to take this course as a full time college course or as an Apprenticeship, where you'll study while
working in a salon. - You'll study practical skills and theory with us and then try out what you've learned in our on site salons or in your
own place of work - You'll be taught by helpful and enthusiastic staff, who have a wide range of experience in this industry.

You'll take these units:
- Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risk to Health and Safety
- Give Clients a Positive Impression of Yourself and Your Organisation
- Advise and Consult with Clients
- Shampoo and Condition Hair and Scalp
- Change Hair Colour
- Style and Finish Hair
- Set and Dress Hair
- Cut Hair Using Basic Techniques
- promote Additional Services or Products to Clients
- Perm and Neutralise hair.
If you're taking the Apprenticeship, you'll have 24 theory sessions at College to support the practical skills you've learned in your workplace. You will then have your final assessments within your salon.
You may need to pay for specialist materials associated with this course.
What qualifications will I get?
NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing, plus Functional Skills qualifications or Key Skills qualifications in Maths and English
What can I go on to next?
You could go on to study NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing - either taken as a full time NVQ or as an Advanced Apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?
You'll be continually assessed using a variety of methods, including practical observations, question and
answer sessions, written assessments and assignments.

Apprenticeship: Between 12-15 months, depending on your age and ability

You'll need one GCSE grade C in English and two Cs in other subjects, equivalent experience, or the Pathway 2 Progression: Diploma in Vocational Studies (see page 36).
If you want to study this course as an Apprenticeship, you'll also need a job in hairdressing.
You'll be interviewed to check the course is suitable for you. You'll need to show you have a professional attitude.
