Young Enterprise involvement

Buxton Learning for Living and Work students are involved in the Young Enterprise Team programme each year.  We are delighted at how well they do and we thought you would like to read some comments from Chris Woodhouse, Chairman, West Derbyshire Area Board, Young Enterprise Young Enterprise East Midlands about our Buxton College students.

"The University of Derby at Buxton has been running the Young Enterprise Team Programme for a few years now.  While most Team Programme companies take two years to complete the programme, the Buxton students finish in a single year.  The students are always enthusiastic and every year have managed to write their company report, put on a good stand at our Trade Fair and stand up in front of the other teams to present at our awards evening - all while making money from their endeavours.

We've always found the staff at Buxton very committed to the Programme.  It's refreshing to see how they invest time and effort into seeing how Team Programme can help their students improve transferable skills through the year and every year we've all seen the students grow in confidence.  It's great to see how some of them take to the stage for their end of year presentations, knowing how difficult they would have found it at the beginning of the Programme.

I'm also particularly pleased that the University's Learning for Living and Work Curriculum Co-ordinator is a member of the West Derbyshire Area Board that I chair.  She has been a strong advocate for the Team Programme, helping to adapt the judging criteria to make them accessible for Team Programme students, ensuring the University's students are well represented at the Board and also writing schemes of work.  Some of the comments from the Curriculum Co-ordinator and her colleagues have been taken into account by Young Enterprise at a National Level as the Team Programme is redeveloped.

In summary, I'm delighted to have the University of Derby at Buxton take part so enthusiastically and successfully in Young Enterprise's Team Programme."

Chris Woodhouse, Chairman, West Derbyshire Area Board, Young Enterprise Young Enterprise East Midlands.
